Growing Resilience
Maybe it’s just my own food insecurity, I’m not sure. But when shortages began occurring at the grocery store, I immediately started considering gardening.
I contracted COVID-19 early in Washington states epidemic. My symptoms were fairly mild, though I did cough up blood once, and my eyes did get glued shut once. I’ll spare you the rest, I feel very fortunate.
Once recovered I set about buying a few supplies. Okay a lot of supplies. Everything I need to build raised beds, including fencing and a drip irrigation system. I could go on but I won’t. Suffice to say that the veggie farming had been an unmitigated success thus far. Nothing but spinach and kale to eat right now, but I can be patient.
The first picture is a screenshot of a Sketch-up rendering I did inline using their free app.
The second picture features my squash bed.
The third photo includes the rest of what was planted at the time of taking.
I have been devoting my efforts on building a more easily sustainable lifestyle. I want to go fully solar, and I want to reclaim all my water. These plans may be a long way still from bearing fruits, but as I say, I can be patient.
